“Choose a topic to work on that reflects your own interests and ideas. Through research, development and experimentation produce a final body of work to a high portfolio standard. The work can be produced in relation to your 3rd year Long Essay research if you so wish.
Exploring alternative approaches and perspectives including learning new skills, you will investigate a wider area of photographic practices.
The content of this module will be specific to your particular interests and ambitions – conceptual/documentary/fashion/performative/studio based/video etc. Although these may be highly exploratory in nature, you will be required to work towards resolving the work in terms of technical, editorial and presentation issues. You are also required to contextualise your practice with visual and theoretical research evident in your accompanying workbooks/journals.”
This is from the brief we were given for this project; you basically chose what you want to do it on.
I chose to do mine on observing people in public spaces, observing their body language and mannerisms. The settings I chose were on buses and trains, as in these situations you often feel like you’re in your own little bubble, with the high-backed seats blocking out the rest of the world, yet in reality you’re there for everyone to see.
At some points I really struggled to shoot this, it took a lot for me to photograph in public like this and I was terrified of being directly accused of photographing people, but after a while I got over it and worried on the photos themselves, instead!
